🟢Marion Island

Today, 2 weeks ago, the M79 team and takeover personnel left the M80 team on Marion Island.

This photo was taken before the last heli flight to the S.A. Agulhas II. The ship departed from Marion Island to Cape Town late afternoon of 12 May 2023.

📷 The 80th Marion Island overwintering team. They will man the Marion research station and conduct scientific research for the period May 2023 to May 2024.

The current team on Gough Island received a letter from Cuba and a postcard from England (via Tristan da Cunha).

Even though the letter from Cuba was sent to Gough Island in 2018, the team would still like to get in contact with the family.

Welcome home!!

The S.A. Agulhas II is currently in the Port of Cape Town, Cruise Terminal.

After spending 13 months in the cold, harsh, windy sub-Antarctic, Marion79 team members are soaking up some sun, before going through passport control.

After customs the ship will move in to East Pie, where family, friends and colleagues will be waiting.
